After my success with Sarah Berry’s Strawberry Sketch SS011 I have been spurred on to design a card for her latest sketch SS012. When I saw the sketch I thought it looked like it was going to be a fun card and the image of the reindeer reminded me immediately of the moose head in the JOLLY FRIENDS stamp set.
The other day I had been making a card using the Wonderous Wreath stamp and die set. After I had finished I was left with the cut out image shown below.
To me it looked like an image of someone (or something) having smashed through a wall which had left a big hole. I kept the cut out to one side as I thought I might be able to use it later.
I was pleased I did because Sarah’s sketch seem the ideal opportunity to use this cut out and have the ‘moose’ leaning out of the hole. I wanted to make it more realistic by having his hooves appearing at the bottom of the cut out but wasn’t sure what to use. I looked through all my stamps and dies for inspiration and finally decided to use the scarf image in JOLLY FRIENDS as the scarf tail seemed the right shape.
I stamped the scarf image twice, cut out a hoof shape from the scarf tail on the right-hand side, then used a black marker to colour it completely.
I am really pleased with the result as I feel it does look like ‘Melvin the Moose’ – my name for him – is peeping out of the hole he has obviously just made to wish everyone a Happy Christmas!
